15 Self-Improvement Activities to Complete Each Morning

The purpose of this one hour is to focus on a goal that will best improve your life right now.

While the energizing portion of your new morning routine will probably always stay the same, this goal-focused hour of self-improvement may change as you achieve self-improvement goals.

For instance, you may feel very strongly right now that you need to improve your fitness level, so you’ll devote this hour per day to training for a running race.

However, when you hit your fitness goals, you may find you want to move fitness activities into your evening or weekend and then dedicate this time to a career-oriented goal.

For now, you need to choose the one goal that will most improve your life overall.

To get started, here is a list of 15 different activities that can be completed in an hour’s time:

Activity 1: Lose Weight

Has your weight negatively affected your life? Perhaps you feel more confident if you lost weight, or maybe your doctor has warned you that your weight problem is a health liability.

Most people who lose excess pounds have reported that they experience improved confidence, strength, stamina, health and enjoyment of life thanks to the ripple effects of dropping a few pounds.

If you’d like to make weight loss your goal, you will want to fill your daily hour with one or more of the following activities:

** Check in with a weight loss partner or accountability app.

** Plan and pack your food for the day (to avoid the temptation of eating out, snacking on junk food or eating fast food—all of which will sabotage your diet plans).

** Run, swim, power walk or bike to get your cardio exercise for the day.

** Use a home elliptical machine, rowing machine, stationary bike or treadmill to get your cardio in.

** Lift weights.

** Do an exercise DVD.

** Find a picture of yourself when you looked your best; post this somewhere you can see it every day.

Of course, you may find that you want to squeeze two of these activities into your morning hour, such as checking in with a weight loss app and then working out for 50 minutes.

You may even be able to squeeze in three activities (maybe you’ll do something like perform a combination of weight lifting and cardio, which is a super effective use of your time), but you will want to be very careful not to try to squeeze too many different activities into this hour. You don’t want to lose focus.

If you don’t think you can do the same thing every morning, consider alternating what you do each morning, while keeping the activities in the same umbrella.

For example, it’s not usually a good idea to do the same type of exercise each day. You may want to make a schedule for yourself so you lift weights on Mondays and Thursdays, run on Tuesdays and Fridays, and bike on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Maybe you’ll stretch for an hour on Sundays, or spend your time stretching and meal planning for the week.
